What Different Cuts of Meat Can I Get From a Butcher?
If you go to your butcher, you will want to know what cuts of meat you should look for. Let’s talk about some of those options.
Beef
With beef, you have a lot of different options in terms of the specific cut of meat that you ultimately settle on. You can choose from any of the following:
- Chuck
- Rib
- Brisket
- Shank
- Plate
- Flank
- Round
- Sirloin
- Short Loin
The most tender and delicious cuts of meat are from the parts of the cow that are most often used. If the cow uses specific muscles more frequently, it will soften up those muscles in a way that makes the meat more tender for the person eating it. Thus, you will pay more, but also enjoy the more tender cuts.
Pork
Options here include:
- Blade Shoulder
- Arm Shoulder
- Loin
- Leg
- Side
These are all delightful choices when you are ordering pork. Just like with the cow, the muscles used the most will be the most tender. However, any of the potential choices are a good idea.
Lamb
You are truly just left with two main options here:
- Loin
- Leg
Lamb is not nearly as commonly served as other types of meat, so it is understandable that there aren’t as many choices. The people simply aren’t demanding that this type of meat be made available to them, so it is not.
Poultry
Many people are more familiar with the cuts of poultry because it is something that plenty of people grew up with. Here are the choices when it comes to poultry:
- Thigh
- Leg
- Drum Stick
- Back
- Tail
- Wing
- Wing Tip
- Neck
- Tenderloin
- Breast
Different people have different opinions about which part is the best, so you will have to discover your favorites.
